Karuizawa offers an amazing small town charm with excellent food, friendly people, and accessible nature. Definitely check out the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel tour to view Musasabi! The only downside to this beautiful town is that it's a bit more pricey than the rest of Japan.

We would definitely go back.
We would definitely go back. Just around an hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo, Karuizawa is the perfect place if you want the laid-back, nature-embraced, old-town feel. Just strolling around town is cool enough but they have a lot of museums and galleries too, that the whole family enjoyed! Also got to try skiing for the first time. Overall, this is one place that we will always be included if we go in the Tokyo area again in the future.

A wonderful destination if you like fresh mountain air, lovely tree-lined roads, cycling, etc. Many useful bus routes and also Shinano Railway next to the Shinkansen that goes to Naka-Karuizawa and way beyond. Note that many restaurants close early, especially out of season. Many well-known restaurants need a booking.

Should spend more days in Karuizawa town.
Should spend more days in Karuizawa town. There is a Skiing sport just beside the Prince town outlets and worth for beginner to try and have fun. Walking distance to the old town bring different experiences and its very nice to try walk around and try the foods there. Its worth to go for a relax place. If more days , can travel down to the other town in Karuizawa for skiing and sight seeing. Awesome place to explore.

A European town in a forested mountainous region not far from Kusatsu, Shima onsen, or Tokyo.
The hot springs aren’t anything special but the mountainous scenery and delicious French/Italian food can be a nice change from the usual Tokyo bustle.
Autumn colours are nice, especially just north towards mount Asama.

Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed.
Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed. Like the “Club” room with free drinks (not beer) and games. Large rooms. Breakfast not buffet but “set,” and good enough. Not easy to spot entrance off the main road.
We really enjoyed our experience at Hotel Wellies! Chris and the team were super fun and provided a great bed & breakfast experience. The location was great for our trip; we were here to bird at the Karuizawa Bird Sanctuary and hang out in the Hanrunire Terrace area. We rented eBikes from Hotel Wellies and it was perfect for getting around. The breakfast was AWESOME. We also did dinner one night and can definitely recommend that as well.
Had a warm welcome at the check-in desk and the staff was very friendly and attended to all my queries. The West Wing is located very close to the hot spring and the outdoor hot spring is just excellent. The entire hotel is massive and has everything we need and the facilities are just perfect for families with kids too. The shopping plaza is only a few minutes walk away and it's just amazing! Will definitely visit again!
The breakfast baskets delivered to the room were cute. Nice experience, quality was OK. I prefer a buffet-style breakfast but this was a pleasant concept.
Location is excellent for the station and also for the outlet shopping mall. The 2F lounge with coffee and juice was nice. Free parking and good location to reach other Karuizawa spots by car.
Welles is a unique British style hotel which is close to Naka-Karuizawa station. The room is comfortable and quite, the garden is beautiful, the breakfast is pretty good, I love the tableware very much, all of them are stylish. Hosts are very friendly and supportive. They can speak English and Japanese as well.
It was a great stay. The hotel is located in mountain areas with great view, but very convenient as it provides free shuttle bus rides to the Karuizawa station - almost one ride every hour. The food is also wonderful. Above all, the service is amazing, the best of the best in worldwide I can say.
The hotel is in a perfect location, truly ski in ski out and just a few minutes’ walk to the outlet mall. The onsen is nice and not too crowded. The service was exceptional - we needed to go to the West hotel when the shuttle was not available and the hotel offered us a complimentary ride.
This hotel has old world charm, and the location is excellent. It is within walking distance to the Prince Shopping Mall, several small shops, cafes, museums, parks, hiking trails & Ginza Street.
Also, the bathroom is spacious by Japanese standards, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Property felt like a Swiss Chalet in Karuizawa but the rooms felt like "Glamping". An interesting concept. Rooms were clean but dated. The website advertises newly renovated rooms but we obviously didn't pay the premium for these rooms so I understand you get what you pay for.
The hotel is located near Karuizawa Station, just a few minutes' walk to Prince Outlet and Old Ginza town. Staff are helpful and accommodating. Rooms are bigger than usual, clean and quiet. They have a free coffee available at the lobby, perfect during winter.
There is shuttle bus from station to all the hotels and ski resort/ hotspring /shopping centre so transportation is not a problem. The view at the room is fantastic. Need reservation for breakfast where you can enjoy a delicious meal with great view.
Good location just next to the ski park and premium shopping outlet. Walking distance to Karuizawa station so even if you don’t catch the half hourly shuttle, it’s still possible to walk back to hotel. Love the free lift pass benefit for children.
The hotel receptionist: was friendly and accommodating.
The bed: was very comfortable.
The location: was convenient, just a few minute walk to Kyu Karuizawa and Karuizawa station.
We will definitely stay here again in the near future. :)
Love the fireplace, never see the real one since we leave in tropical country
Free bus to prince hotel ski resort
Hotel located 10 minutes walk from JR station, not too close but not too far either
Breakfast is good
Good location. Surrounded by nature. Close to Karuizawa station. Easy access on foot with luggages. Very friendly staff. Sumptuous breakfast. Spacious room. Good food at the Japanese restaurant.
The location was good. It is close to the old street area. The onsen was nice as an added bonus and much more up to date than the hotel rooms. The interior garden is pretty.
Perfect location for walking to Old Karuizawa and the shopping mall. Nice communal bath and shower. Comfortable tatami room. Quiet. Clothes washer and dryer available.
The location was good and the staff were helpful. The hotel has shuttle service that does a pick up and drop off at Karuizawa station. The breakfast was good.
